COFAX takes complaints about accuracy, fairness, privacy and editorial conduct seriously. This procedure is designed to resolve concerns promptly and transparently.
How to complain
Use the Contact form and choose Editorial enquiry or Correction request. Include:
- your name and a reliable contact address;
- the article URL, headline and publication date;
- the exact words, image or conduct you are complaining about;
- why you believe it breaches a published COFAX policy;
- the correction or remedy you are seeking; and
- supporting evidence or relevant correspondence.
Our process
- We aim to acknowledge a substantive complaint within three working days.
- An editor not directly responsible for the disputed wording will review it where practicable.
- We may ask for clarification, evidence or consent to share the complaint with relevant contributors.
- We aim to provide a substantive response within 20 working days. Complex legal or evidential issues may take longer, in which case we will explain the delay.
- Where a material error is established, we apply the Corrections Policy.
Review
If you disagree with the outcome, request a review within 20 working days and identify the evidence or policy point you believe was overlooked. A final internal response will be provided where practicable by a different senior reviewer.
Regulatory status
COFAX is not claiming membership of IPSO or another press regulator unless its current membership is expressly stated on this page. This does not affect any legal rights or the ability to complain to an authority with jurisdiction over a separate issue, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office for data protection.
